To coincide with the Ireland’s General Election, 6th Class boys ran their own general election on Thursday 25th March. Each boy wrote and presented his own manifesto, with four candidates chosen in the end by the sixth class teachers. After a few days of intensive campaigning with their election agents, Greg, Derek, Ryan and Victor were ready to go to the poles.
The election itself was an official one, with Scoil Eoin ballot papers, a sealed voting box and a election officer overseeing the vote. As the first count began the sense of excitement and anticipation grew. Victor was deemed elected with 21 first counts! He was thrilled!!
The contest howeer was far from over! The boys were on their feet as we headed into the FOURTH count! By the slimmest of margins the second candidate elected was Ryan! A fantastic experience for all involved. An added bonus was the very positive and encouraging reponse that we received from many of the actual candidates running in Cork North West in the election the following day through our Twitter account.
