Scoil Eoin are truly delighted to be awarded the 8th Green Schools Flag under the theme of Citizenship – Marine Environment. Schools from Cork were presented with the prestigious Green Flag at an awards ceremony in the Radisson Blu in Little Island on Monday 13th May. Here at Scoil Eoin we have a proud history of Green Schools’ values. The children and staff in Scoil Eoin have an excellent standard of knowledge, respect and care for the environment through the work engaged in to achieve the eight flags we have been awarded.
Our hard working Green School Team aims to direct and address all phases of the Green School’s Programme. Our Green Schools Committee is student led under the directorship of our Green Schools Coordinator, Mrs. Healy. This team is the driving force of the programme and ensures that all of the 7 steps are carried out. They meet fortnightly to plan and organise whole school activities to raise awareness of our current theme. They also monitor and evaluate current practice and maintain the work from previous themes. The focus of the eighth Green Flag was on Marine Environment and Marine Biodiversity. With 70% of the planet covered by oceans, we learned about interesting sea creatures, marine eco-systems, their threats and the work being done to save them. A huge well done to Mrs. Healy and her fantastic Green Schools Boys!!
