Healthy Eating Week, 16-20th November
Dear Parents,
Scoil Eoin’s Health Week has arrived once again. Throughout the coming week, the children will be actively learning about healthy food choices and the importance of exercise in maintaining a healthy mind and body. Our food pyramid will be displayed in the foyer, please come and have a look.
Scoil Eoin took part in The Food Dude’s Programme last year. Children were encouraged to bring fruit and vegetables to school every day. Most children are making a good effort to keep this healthy habit but a little encouragement is always needed. We ask you to ensure that your child has a healthy lunch every day and to avoid junk food as much as possible. It is important also to be aware of portion size, a child does not need an adult portion.
During the week, your child will bring home leaflets with suggestions for healthy lunches. Please read and discuss these with your child and remember that you will be helping to set up good eating habits for a lifetime. We will have a fruit tasting session in each class later in the week.
The Dental Nurse will visit Junior Infants, Second, Fourth and Sixth classes on Wednesday to talk to the children about caring for their teeth.
Scoil Eoin is a member of the HSE’s Health Promoting School’s Team and with your participation we hope to help your child to create a healthy lifestyle which will last throughout his life.
An old Irish saying – “Is fearr an tsláinte ná na táinte” – “Our health is our wealth” reminds us of the importance of a healthy way of living which is important for both parents and children!
Le meas,
Miss. Appleby
