Sanita Puspure has spent the last four years training for the Rio Olympics, after participating in the London Olympics in 2012. As with any Olympian. that requires sacrifice, blood, sweat, tears and total commitment. This sentence also sums up her journey in Rio. Sanita was our only rower in London but this time went as part of a five strong rowing family. She gave a fantastic performance in her first heat, finishing a comfortable fourth (conditions were choppy), quaifying her for the quarter final of the single skulls.

Unfortunately the field in Sanita’s quarter final proved to be a huge challenge and despite a huge push in the final 500m, she missed out on a place in the semi final by 0.65 of a second. Incredibly, that time would have been more than good enough to progress in the other three heats. Sport is unbelievably tough and especially sport at the highest level, which the Olympics undoubtedly are. No doubt still utterly heartbroken, Sanita took to the water several days later and won the C/D Final .. meaning that she finished 6th in the Olympics.

To qualify for the Olympics is a feat beyond the vast majority of us. To participate and perform so impressively takes a special something. We in Scoil Eoin are unbelievably proud of Sanita, proud that she is a parent in the school, proud that she has represented Ireland at two Olympics and proud that she performed to the very best of her ability. Well done Sanita!
