Closely linked with St. Patrick’s Day, Seachtain na Gaeilge is a celebration of all things Irish in Scoil Eoin every year. It is lovely to hear the boys make a special effort chun Gaeilge a labhairt. The boys participate in a variety of activities, from quizzes as Gaeilge to céilís to the annual concert, where every class recites a poem and sings a song. This year we were honoured with visits from two special men in the world of the Irish Language. Storyteller (Scéalaí) Paddy O’ Brien regaled the boys with stories in dramatic fashion, while composer Seán Ó Sé entertained the boys with a mixture of song and story. Most famous for an t-amhrán “An Poc ar Buile”, the boys were delighted to join in with him and also to sing for him.
A number of competitions took place also, which saw the boys designing posters and writing scéalta beaga. The winners were presented with their prizes this week, a little treat for Easter! Maith sibh to the parents who made a great effort to “Bí ag Caint” linn. Míle buíochas to Bean Uí Chatháin for all of her work for Seachtain na Gaeilge arís i mbliana.
